Max Articulation D2 vs D1 Trailing Arms

I was wondering if D2 trailing arms flex more than D1 trailing arms - certainly stronger!

So what are the merits or otherwise in cutting the trailing arm brackets off a D2 diff and welding these to a D1 diff and using D2 trailing arms. Would need to get the D2 Chassis mounts as well and would need a chassis welder to certify the work I guess.

Any thoughts technically on the mod?

AFAIK the D2 arms are longer, and wouldn't suffer the chassis mount binding issue. The Watt's link is what restricts D2 suspensions.

Being a radius arm they wouldn't work with the D1, RRC upper A-frame - you would need to remove the A-frame and use a panhard rod (or Watt's link) for lateral restraint.

Why not just use cranked trailing arms. I've made my own by sleeving the std arms in roll cage pipe and bending them in a pipe bender.

I now have no pressure on the bush at static height. 10 degree bend (I run std hieght springs)

No binding issue's even running 14.3" stroke bilsteins

I should explain - I have Nissan diffs in a RRC chassis building for comp and club trips

I have Land Rover arms that have been sleeved and bent on the set up now (came with them)
BUT they are the wrong length by about 20 mm to rotate the diff so pinion looking at the transfer case

So looking at change options at the moment

Was thinking of cutting the chassis end of the arms and welding on eyes and putting a bush in and fixing this to a bracket welded to a plate that bolts into the normal RRC chassis bush mount location. So basically this would be an eye mount at the top the same as the bottom.

Then I saw my D2 as got in for work today and wondered about taking a set of D2 rear arms - much stronger and adapting the axle and chassis mounts to fit the D2 arms. I have a set of D2 axle mounts hence the thought and post.

Just move the D1 chassis brackets further forward and have custom trailing arms made , this along with keeping the A frame should improve articulation i believe.

Yes - have a new chassis he started to make up - working on building up with a stage one body on the top
Just about ready to put engine and auto in - wanted to solve the trailing arms and rotate the diff pinion.

    Thanks loanrangie
Not sure I want to start to change the chassis set up as have just got that all finished - prefer to solve the arms using normal mount points.
Might go standard sleeved rangie arms for now and get custom one made once know the length - Skiboy

Ok, i thought you were after and improvement. In that case just cut a stock arm and sleeve it allowing a n extra 20m in length or have some custom adjustable ones made with HEIM joints in the diff end.
