    TD5 Belt length

I just had my alternator replaced on my Def130 td5 with the part supplied and a new belt to a Melbourne Lnd Rov repairer.
Upon pickup I was told and charged for a new belt, as the explanation was the length was to short.
Counter guy told me the one I did bring in was the right belt but did not fit so replaced it with the longer one after they stopped scratching their heads over it.
All is standard with factory aircon so I don't know why that would be as when I bought my belt it was the right one for my td5.
The part numbers are different so they didn't sell me the same belt but I think I might have been taken for a ride.
Wish I had asked for my old belt back at the time to compare.
And also now we have a squeal coming from the motor.

Has anyone out there had the same thing ?

2001 Defenders had the 'after market' factory A/C..

This uses a slightly different belt to the UK built Defender with the extended nose.

Its also the most expensive belt (about 5 times more than the later A/C defender).

So you weren't taken for a ride.

Would that include a 2000 model?

Is the belt routed the correct way around the AC pully?
I spent about half an hour trying to figure out why my new belt for the TD5 D2 wouldnt fit until I realised I was going the wrong way around the AC pully.

    cheers.

Can only go around one way.... Its a grooved pulley.... Unless it's different to a D2.....

Yes its a multi V. But stupid here went the wrong way around the PS pulley which gave the AC pulley nearly 80% contact and resulted in the fan pulley only making contact on a small portion of the pulley surface area. It almosted fitted this way. A longer belt would have fitted no worries but would have left the fan pulley without the right surface area for belt contact.
A rethink of the belt path suddenly made more sense when I put the 2 belts side by side.. Sometimes I stuff up, maybe others can too.

    Cheers

Which is the correct belt for later Defender TD5's (up till the Puma's). Part number HYM1132 (1825 mm), or PQS101500 (1801 mm).

For example, my 2004, which has the factory fitted under-dash A/C. I only ask because I bought a belt before a long trip (p/n HYM1132), which I was allowed to return afterwards for a refund, and I think it might have been the wrong one.

    Cheers,

    Lionel
