How to identify thickness of head gasket?

How do you tell what thickness head gasket you have? I have heard there are a number of holes to identify them. If so where are the holes located on the gasket?
    Cheers

for the TDI its on the side on an elongated tab.

    3 holes is the thickest.

From memory its the same game for the TD5.

yes they did, because they are lazy.

its a bonding agent which means they didnt pay to get the faces surface finish restored.

you dont need to with a landy head.
