Good deal on V8 camshafts but help me choose one

An update:
I made the decision to go with an early pre pollution cam.
My camshaft kit arrived from the UK but unfortunately they sent me a 3.9 cam anyway:mad: The part number is ERR5924.

When I plug this number into google, I get references to it being an updated 3.9 camshaft which is used with a thrust plate.

Is the thrust plate thing going to be an issue using it in a 3.5 block? Will I need the thrust plate?

Comments from those in the know would be appreciated as I'm running out of time to use my (limited) options to try and sort this out.

G`day ,

other than having the groove for the thrust , it makes little difference to fitting or ment .

The way things work if everythings normal the cams held back by taper it`s generally only high revs or worn parts that let the cam move and your timing cover should have a lip on the inside that will halt forward movement .

So long as the 3.9 cam isn`t a US spec cam it should be ok but if you have an option i`d suggest trying for what you wanted , sort of defeats the purpose if not .

Though i know of no actual physical comparisons , in the real world and not on paper there may be little difference .

We have a crossbolted block using an unrestrained cam and for the last 5 or 6 yrs could be longer its not been a problem , it is not a factory cam but that makes little difference as far as being restrained .

What did you degree the cam into ? How much lift at TDC no 1 ?
Please dont tell me you use the "Line up tje dots" method !!!!

Its still sitting in the box waiting for me to find time and motivation......

Well .how do you intend to set it up ? Whats the duration at 50 , LCS and lift , got any real specs on it ? Whats your static Comp ?
Why do I ask , because 90 % of Rover V8 owners have absolutely no Idea of what the cam should do and when it should do it , they just slap it on the old dot to dot crap and hope for the best !! Hence why there appears to be great performace differences between identical engines .

Is there really much point in degreeing the cam when the standard gears only give the option of a tooth either way? I can see why you'd do it if you had an adjustable cam gear.....

Dont rollmaster/Romac do a adjustable crank timing gear for the old rover motor ?
In the specs for this new cam , how much advance is pre-ground into it to allow for initial stretch ? Id suggest you take it to a "CAMdoctor" and have it measured / assessed.
