    300tdi disco EGT

So Ian fitted mine up today for me while I was at work.

can I ask everyone that have fitted there EGT have they gone through the ignition? so the unit turns on and off with the key?

At the moment Ian has it wired direct to the Aux battery so it stays on all the time (well it wasn't on when we went out but we have alsoi discovered that the Aux is knackerd. However I can only assume it would be on all the time, and even though its only LED's I dont want it on all the time draining away.

How have others wired up there EGT's got any pictures?

I have done a search I know many people have fitted them but I cant find the info I'm after without trawling through threads that talk about EGT but weren't a specific EGT thread on fitment

    Lou,
IF you had a D2...Bottom left of the fuse box under the steering column is a disused relay position. One of the pin holes has an ignition on only feed. Thats where I connect them and UHF's etc.

Now, as YOU have a D1, there are 2 male connectors over on the RH side of the fuse box facia, one of those is ignition live. Just plug a female spade connector onto it and your away

    Sorry for the brain fade.

    Where are the pics????
    How hot does it get???

On D1's I solder & tape a connection and fuse to the ignition switch harness, white or yellow wire crossing the lower dash panel area towards the pillar. This means I know there's nothing else on the circuit.

Bee utey fitted mine as mentioned above.
Only on if ignition on, there is no reason to have on for any other time.

Check out thermoguard website, thats where I got mine and is full of useful info, he has a D1 300 tdi and also gives some detailed info of what happens to turbos and intercooling or charge cooling as he calls it.

He mentions to not exceed 720 Degrees C.

He has pics of installs and is just a allround nice bloke should you have any questions.
Oh and mine is just below the clock and the 4 blank switches on dash.
Well, they were blank, one now has the gas switch and other diff lock light.

    Goodluck

    Justin has the best solution.

I wired mine to accessories but wiring to ignition is the easiest way to do it. There is an ignition supply in the fuse box of both the Disco 1 and 2. It is described in the Auxiliary power kit fitting instructions for the Disco 1 (attached).

The diagram below is taken from the document and shows the location of the terminal.

Thanks so much guys Ian has rectified it this evening gauge now goes on and off with the car starting

what I did want to ask though is car is idling at 240/243 does that sound high?

when driving the car what sort of temps should I be looking at in different scenarios such as traffic, hills that sort of thing.

next on the list the boost gauge ....once i have that I will start to play with the pump again.

240 at idle is high compared to mine. I'm assuming this is after the temp has stabilised. Was the air conditioning on.

After I pull up I let the engine idle until the EGT drops to about 190 - 180 C before shut down. I wouldn't like to shut down with the egt much over 200 C. I have to turn air con off for temp to drop this low.

Lou, like John, I let mine idle down to below 200C before shut down. 230 to 240 idling is a bit high. Will it drop down in park/ neutral after a little bit? If left in drive idling after a run, yes it could take some time to drop to sub 200.

As already said, yes it is a bit high.

Did you fit an Auber Instruments gauge? If so, you can buy a MAP sensor for boost and toggle between EGT and boost readings. Once it's set up, you don't really need to have boost displayed anyway.
