Hi,
I know everyone's going to say don't do it....but I already have..![]()
Got myself a P76 motor and I plan to use my reco'd 3.5 heads on the top of it however the oil path to the rockers has me stuck and I need some advice. Read posts where people have drilled the block and others who have used external hoses - however can't I just use the P76 system of oil via the pushrods? will the P76 rockers bolt onto the 3.5 heads??
If there is a neccessity to drill can anyone advise who can do this in Melbourne; I am onto a couple guys but no call backs yet...
Or if I go the external hoses does anyone have instructions or maybe some pics??
Alright now I see why I cant use the rockers.....so hoses or drilling???
Regards
Rokkitt

One of my customers punted a 2 door RR for a few years with this combination. You need the P76/Holden lifters with the oil feed, and the hollow P76 push rods. The oil feed appears to be quite sufficient to lube the rocker shaft via the rocker arms. I had a head off his engine because of an overheating failure and saw no indications of excess wear. In terms of using the P76 rockers, not possible as there aren't enough bosses in the 3.5 head to mount the P76 pedestals. I recommend top quality engine oil though (e.g. Penrite) as there isn't any great pressure in the shafts this way.
Funny thing, one of my mates built a P76 motor with a set of new lifters (no holes) he bought from a well known rover shop. He managed 300km on his moly assembly lube before the rocker arms started to self destruct.
Lucky thing we stopped near enough to an auto parts shop in Port Augusta where we found a set of Holden lifters and got him on the road again.. Took a couple of hours all told.

LOL...funny thing is I called the shop I oredered my parts from and then the guy realised I would need the lifters for the P76 - the ones he had sent were for the 3.5 without a hole so could have easily ended up in the same place.
New to these landies so all advice no matter how many times it's been said may help to avert disaster for me...![]()

How much smaller are the chambers on the 3.5 heads? Would they bump the compression up a fair bit?
