Turbo timer the culprit?
Hi there, may I pass on a request for advice from my mate with a 96 Defender 130 HCPU? Cheers.
“Last Wednesday Morn we had a flat battery. So, I got NRMA to fit a new 'you beaut', bigger, as specified, battery.
The next morning at the farm, when going to pick up an order of sheep panels...fllat battery...again
Tried jumper leads, across the lot...no success. Tried the caravan battery as well with the engine reved up...no success, just a flat battery clicking and dim lights effect.
Tried removing the dead battery...still no success.
When the NRMA man arrived Last Thursday, I insisted that his monster battery be used with the highly suss battery disconnected...no success.
The NRMA arranged a tow for yesterday to their depot. Told me the battery was faulty and a new one works well...oh no. What happens a short pace down the road when it most surely happens again? We have already tried a replacement battery and it was a fizzer. What has changed?
Does AULRO have any advice and possibly the track record of the 'turbo charger cooldown extender' (turbo timer) which is the only after market item in the electrical circuit bypassing the ignition switch?
While waiting for the NRMA 3 days to tow the vehicle, I checked the current draw on the 11volts remaining in the new battery, with the ignition switched off. The NRMA man said 'something' is switched on...there was nothing switched on.
The leakage current with the ignition off, I measured myself at 2.5Amperes.
So, what have others experienced please? I have to drive back home on Friday, yet can't even get out to buy food tomorrow.”

Several ways to check where the 2.5A is going.
A simple way is to pull one fuse at a time. If the current drops to zero then you have the circuit.
Bit difficult to go further without a diagram though.
Of course it depends on what the fuse supplies. If it is lights then that is a bit easies to trace through that some others.

Thanks for that Miky, have passed it on to my mate. I believe the mechanic is now suggesting it may be an alternator problem, but we'll see.
