OK OK ... I'm almost sold. What about an EGT? Is it recommended for keeping an eye on things?
I did it to my Fender
I did it to my Disco
It was done at > 100K km
It was done at < 100K km
I believe I have had issues as a result
I have not had any issues as a result
I have had manifold problems
I have not had manifold problems
I am happy with the result.
I have added details of my issues in my posting below
I sell Tombie2's chips down here,( and some BD ones for early non flash ECU's also) and agree that manifold issues are just as common unchipped, so no worries in that department. I have 1 that I have upgraded to 10mm studs etc, but it gets pushed HARD.
The last 2 chips I have flashed, (140KW Tombie maps) have transformed the vehicles to a point that the owners have fallen in love with them all over again, and 1 was even considering selling it before, but not now.
My opinion is just do it, you won't believe that you waited that long. No or minimal increase in fuel consumption (AFTER the first few weeks when you've got over trying it out up every hill you see), Although all manual ones I have done have increased economy as a result of using a higher gear, and a huge improvement in all round driveability.
(I may be selling these, yes, but I am very happy with customer feedback; Happy LR owners are a joy to behold)

Shortly after having my 2000 Disco chipped I started having problems with the engine computer not talking to the auto transmission computer. So much so that I sold it and bought a 1998 DefenderTDI. No problems since.
