Thread: disco blowing smoke

heyhey all

i have a 1992 disco tdi its done around 250 000ks
on start up it blows a little bit of smoke (most diesels do)
but when driving when i back off the power a plume of black/ blue smoke poors out of her.
this only happens when i back off the throttle
and it doesn't matter if the motor is cold or hot it still blows smoke

any help would be great??

Your symptoms of smoke when you back off may be due to a delaminated turbo hose.

Have a look at the rubber hoses from the turbo to intercooler and intercooler to intake manifold.
See if they are really squashy and preferably pull them off and inspect the inside walls for bubbles and separation of the rubber.
This can block the air flow when you back off and the pressure is reduced, thus causing a black smoke plume.
