    Diesel injectors on a Discovery1

Hi all, reciently purchased a tdi, spoke to the previouse owner, (one owner) 216,000K and asked him what does the car need in terms of servicing, and the only thing he could come up with was the injectors need servicing, havn't been done since 100,000 service, so i thought i will just go out and buy some new ones till I saw the price.
Heres the question, can they be serviced for ever or do they need replacing every ????k ?
Am I able to pull them out hit them with a wire brush, stick em back in and bobs your uncle?
Your opinion would be greatly appreciated once again
    Regards
    Brett

At some point they will need replacing, (look at the Yank market to keep it cheaper).

Wire brushing??? It would be easier to have a snip here & a tuck there to make "Bob" your aunty!!!

EDIT: Like this ( I know they are for a petrol, just an example ) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LAND-...item3cac9730a8

One of the changes from the 200Tdi (early disco/defender) to 300Tdi (disco update/later defender) was the change to dual stage injectors.

A diesel service shop can clean the dual stage injectors and check the low pressure stage but they can not test or adjust the high pressure stage.

So for the cost of new injectors, it is very hard to justify cost of servicing the injectors and still being uncertain if the function correctly.

The first stage only injects a small quantity of fuel to start ignition. The second stage injects the bulk of the fuel needed. The purpose is to reduce the diesel knock and NOx emmission.

Edit: You could clean soot off the injector youself, but for no good purpose. There are a number of nozzle holes in the tip and their diameter is so small that most people would need a magnifying glass to see them. The nozzle holes and opening pressure control how far and where the nozzle sprays - they have to spray into the extents of the combustion chamber in the piston crown and atomise the diesel fuel.

I wouldn't change them,I changed mine at 400,000k's and it made no difference whatsoever. If it starts easily and drives without a problem I'd just drive it and save the money. Pat

The 200Tdi injectors were two stage as well. (Well at least mine in my 200Tdi Disco were)

    Second 280atm
