    Not a bigger one as such, but a better one. Cheap alternative to give more bottom end mid range grunt. This with your better exhaust will be a nice little boost.

    Cam, new lifters, a few gaskets & away we go for under $500!!

    I fitted it over five years ago now. If you do a search you should find several of my postings.
    It is definitely not a bolt on job, as you have to have the front machined for a thermostat housing and the kickdown cable is a major pain. You have to fabricate a mounting for the stepper if use the 14CUX.
    I have never regretted it, but be aware that there are always unforeseen consequences like the torque converter now being as loose as a goose.

    your comments have all been thought provoking to say the least.
    my 12 year old brother suggesting "swapping the engine out for a hemi crate motor"..... also thought provoking, even if a lot less likely.

    we'll see how we go once the exhaust is on (two weeks)
    then we shall investigate the chip issue further

    Hi Philip - can you please explain this statement?? how have you modified you engine to produce this torque?
    i assume you have dyno charts to confirm this?

    what ballpark figures have you spend to get this extra power, and would you have been better off to go down the 4.6 path?

    It should also be possible to machine up a spacer that bolts to the manifold to accept a housing, keep it thin though or it may foul the distributer.

    Did the manifold clear the standard 3.9 rocker covers? I've just picked up some (3.9 covers) as the original 3.5 units look like they'll be in the way. (setback oil filler)

    Also - I'm looking to re-do the water plumbing on the 3.5. Is it possible to use the outlet hole that's to the left of the main outlet on the thor to feed the heater circuit? Any ideas on where the return water should be hooked into? I'll be blocking the heater outlets in the rear of the 3.5 pump as they give me the #$@!s.

    Yes. the 3.9 inlet filter fits on the back LH rocker cover using a 3.9 filter.
    On mine the oil filler on the front LH rocker Juuust fits , the interference on mine is with a bracket I made for the kickdown cable.
    No problem with the oil vent, as you can join the 3.9 hose to the Thor hose via the T piece and a heat gun.

    Yes. Try to get the solid pipe that comes from the manifold on the Thor when you buy the manifold. It is sealed by an Oring so would be hard to duplicate as there is no stub on the manifold , just a hole and a lockdown tab. I used that and the normal pipe from the back of the water pump on a 3.9.

    With regard to the spacer I had the manifold machined because AFAIR that it was hard to fit a spacer because of the dizzy and the spacer had to either short or long, with a common bolt used for one mount of teh spacer and the thermostat housing if short plus of course two gaskets, if the housing was to be in the right position for the hose. Also the hole in the front of the manifold is a lot smaller than in 3.9 manifoild and if a short adaptor was used I was concerned about water flow.
