before i left on my big trip I was doing a once over of the engine and noticed my vac advance had almost fallen off the Dizzy.
This puts the timing all over the place as the baseplate is free to move.
Anyway I tightened it and then covered the screws with silastic and they haven't moved since.
I was talking to another RRC owner while on a club trip last weekaend and he said the same thing had happened to him, so it is common.
So everyone get off your backsides and go and check your vac advance.
I think one of the side effects of this was that when the car was dynod it showed more advance than it actually had, and the static timing was about 4.5 degrees.
I have changed it first to 7.5 and now about 8.5 and what a difference!!!! Seeing the Unichip only is set to advance at part throttle I have not heard any pinging, although I am so deaf I probably wouldn't hear it anyway.LOL
It pulls a higher ratio up steep hills and is incredibly responsive vs how it was, which was still miles better than a standard RRC.
I can hardly wait to check economy as it was good before.

The other deal is ... While checking that the vacuum advance was working by sucking on the rubber hose to see if it held vacuum (it was working) ... I decided to check it the other side also ... Where the vacuum hose gets hooked up to the plentium (manifold)
I found that little plentium (manifold) hole connection to be blocked ...(result is vacuum advance not working) .... had to clear it by pushing a needle pin down it
.... So check the vacuum hose "both ways" .....

Yep, been there done that! The thread in the dizzy body was stripped so stuck in a self tapper and all good.

Yes as long as you remember to put some on BEFORE you tighten those b little screws with a right angle screwdriver because there is no room for a conventional one. The choice was loosen and Loctite or bugger it some Silastic will hold em.that's what locktite is for![]()
