If it is leaking from the slave cylinder, then it will need replacing.
I would probably recommend you replace the master cylinder as well.
When that is done you will have to bleed the system to get all the air out.
Hi Guys,
In the past week, my clutch has started dragging. This morning, it was to the point where it is not drivable.
There is a little fluid leaking from slave cylinder, so I'm really hoping its just a matter of filling it up again?
I checked the master cylinder - Its empty.. with only a little black sludge in the bottom.
So-
Can I just fill it up or will I have to bleed it?
Can I use ordinary Dot4 or do I need to get something else? (any difference between the LT85 and R380 here?)
There are no marks I can see for high and low level.. do I just fill it up until the level is kinda near the top?
Thanks guys,
Dec

hadn a similar problem on my 110, the spec fluid should be stamped on the cylinder lid/cap, but in true LR fashion its blank.....
i just used some dot 4 and filled it up it came back ok to drive and had it done during some other work at my mechanics 4 days later
give it a go it should get you going

Top it up with brake fluid, any grade should do. With luck it will get you out of trouble.
There is a good chance that just topping it up and giving it a few pumps will get it going temporarily. If not try bleeding it. (Temporarily can sometimes mean months! Just check the fluid regularly.)
I assume from your comments that it is on a coil sprung Landrover. Other than the early 110, there is a possibility that your problem is a failed clutch fork, in which case fluid and bleeding will not help, although this rarely results in the loss of all fluid. There is also the slight possibility that it is due to a leak not at one of the cylinders, but these are very rare.
It always helps with this sort of query to state exactly which model we are talking about!

Sorry its an 86 isuzu 110 with an R380 gearbox.
I topped it up, and gave it a few pumps - it is drivable, but still difficult. Might have to bleed it when there is a little more light.
