    Nanocom issue

Yesterday I was attempting to help Cosmic Tourist to install a new Tombie ECU using my Nanocom (update model with USB output).

We successfully read the injector codes but after the new box was installed the Nanocom wouldn't talk to it. Whatever we tried came up with "function locked - install unlock code to continue".

Re-installed the old box and same thing - wouldn't talk to it.

Haven't had a chance to see if it will talk to mine yet, was just wondering if anyone has come across this before.

First thing I would do is to look at the nanocom's own settings to check what unlock codes are saved. It sounds a bit like the first one is in, but the rest are missing/incorrect??
For what you're doing I'd say (from looking at the manual) that code no.2 as a minimum needs to be entered; but it's worthwhile having all 6 in.

You find out the codes for your nanocom from when you registered your nanocom on their website - you can login and check what they are meant to be. Obviously checking / entering is going to be heaps easier with the computer hooked up too.

If it's nothing to do with that, then I'm afraid I haven't a clue!

This is classic symptoms that several members have had happen recently.

The unit loses its boot loader and stops reading vehicles.

    LandyAndy I think has a re-loader.

    Hi Tony.
Is Cosmic Tourists a Defer or D2???
IF its a D2,when you got the Nanocom, did you bother putting the D2 unlocks into it considering you have a Defer???
When changing to a different ECU,you need to go into the "learn security codes" If your Nanocom is Defer only and you are using it on a D2 this may be the issue.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware that they were vehicle specific. This is the first time I've used it to do anything like this.

Thing is, it read the injector codes ok initially.

The first two unlock codes are in there.

Why do they have unlock codes anyway? What's the point?

I believe its like unlocking a licence to use.
You should be able to get all the unlock codes from their website using your original sign up.
You definately need to unlock features to get them working, guessing you only unlocked the defender stuff originally.Defer/D2 engine are the same unlock code!!!

Ok gets more interesting. The first two unlock codes are in there but the first one starts with a ? which seems a bit odd.

Also, I tried installing the latest firmware and came up with a message about not being able to initialise the bootloader or something like that.

Just waiting on a reply from Mattia
