I always thought the mid to late series were 16mm X 1.5.
I am galvanising my spare wheel carrier, so will need a die to recut the wheel studs. I used a Series 3 spare wheel mount when I made the carrier, so it would be the older (pre metric) thread.
So - what thread is it, and where can I get a die (Brian - you still in business?).
I always thought the mid to late series were 16mm X 1.5.
I'm fairly sure the series went 16X1.5 27MM hex in around 1972. Maybe earlier?
Series 3 is the same as RR Classic, 90/110/Defender and Disco 1, as stated, 16mm x 1.5 from memory.
All earlier Landrovers up to late S2a were 9/16"BSF
A dienut for the first should be available off the shelf from any self respecting tool shop, and BSF dienuts are available to order from similar shops (I got one in Dubbo a couple of years ago from Gasweld).

I can supply BSF taps and dies from 3/16" to 5/8" including some left hand tools all in High Speed Steel. Bruce Gardner in Melbourne, trading as B.S.F. Bolts 0408 056 255, has some bigger sizes and some strange ones like 7/32" and 5/32". Bruce has BSF, BA, BSW, BSC bolts, nuts, studs. Bruce's range of special fasteners are the best prices in Australia.
Edit- Bruce also has the best and cheapest stock of BA taps and dies in Oz.

Put a couple of nuts on the thread with a little grease before galvanizing, tell the platers they're meant to be there and then just undo them after. Zinc is pretty soft.
cheers, DL
I havn't tried it on external threads but on internal threads if you fill the hole with silastic it stops the acid and zinc from getting in the hole, it still needs a bit of cleaning out afterwards but generally the hole is protected from gal. I would think the same technique could be applied to external threads if you applied a good coating of silastic to the thread.
Cheers, Mick.
