LOL I was being a bit smart, yes the Le Mans winning cars were built in the USA. there was a special projects ford department in the UK these were the cars that kept on braking down "DNF" but the first winning car or the first GT40 to win a race was built by a couple of Kiwis out side of the UK team, unfortunately this car was crushed when the US cars arrived. if it wasn’t for the US build it is doubtful that the cars would ever have achieved the status that they have apart from possibly a one off build in semi sponsored hands, you can see the politics in the Lemans side by side for executive ordered finish ( which didn’t happen)
If you have some spare change, last I heard Carroll Shelby will still build you an authentic Shelby Cobra 427 with a California DMV title dated 1965. Price a few years ago was US$500,000. This is a donation to children's heart disease research. Carroll Shelby is a heart transplant recipient.

The GT40 was a british car from the start,a Lola design from start to finish and they stopped because the gearbox's couldn't handle the power, the re-engined American ones broke down quicker as they had more power.Carol Shelby hasn't done a thing as far as designing cars go,he just re-engined two british cars, the GT40 and AC Ace which he called the cobra. Yes, indeed. Other than a general resemblance I doubt if there is anything unchanged. The first ones with the 289 had to be substantially re-engineered when the 289 started pulling everything apart. The lovely little AC Ace had a low output 2 litre engine and was a very nice little Sunday sports car for a spirited drive in the country but not built to withstand competition stresses from powerplants with triple its horsepower. The 427 probably has six times the power of the AC engine.

My facts are right,Shelby got chassis straight from the UK and modified them to suit. The later models had very little of the originals componants as the 427 as an example wouldn't fit but he didn't come up with the design or the original consept he just modded them to suit.To say that the GT40 or Cobra are American or they broke the sound barrier on there own is plain wrong.
