D2 td5 Shutting down whilst driving

Have been driving around without front propshaft as it is being rebuilt for past week no problems except for the 3 amigo’s being on due to the diff lock being engaged.(Doubt this would have any thing to do with the below mentioned problem, but is a land rover)

Today whilst driving the engine shut down. It would turn over but not fire. When left for a few minutes it would start and run. It repeated this 3 more times this afternoon within 15 minutes of each other.

Could be the crank position sensor Ben. Hook the nanocom and see if it has any faults...

see what fault codes are coming up????

It sounds like the computer is trying to protect the engine and gearbox as you have driven for too long with the diff lock engaged, id say...

I suggest fix the front shaft put it back on, disengage diff lock, then clear all codes and try again.

I've driven 3-4000km with no front shaft - this wont be the issue.

Crank angle sensor is possible, or an intermittent inertia switch.

Can you still here the fuel pump working? I've just had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. replaced the pump and it s now all good. I've been told the fuel pump playing up is a common problem.

crank sensor but if its not dont go changing every possible thing possible before you check your ecu as i had a failing ecu that was chucking all these fault codes out and we kept on changing stuff untill it chucked crank angle sensor fault twice ,ecu can not diagonose itself put a donor ecu in no problems after that

    Mine did the same recently.
It's shut down on a down hill with oly the ACE and HDC light shining amber.
General comments was that it's the crank sensor.
So next will hook it up to diagnostics and see.
    No problem since it happened

Is there a way to check the crank sensor if it's working or not aother than what the ECU would show in error codes?
