    power steering pump rebuild

ok - I'm pretty sure the ps pump has gone, I've lost all power assistance, and i can see no fluid flow in the resivoir

What is there in these little pumps that can fail? I wouldn't have thought much. Has anyone rebuilt / repaired one before, or are they cheap enough not to bother?

    Its an '85 V8 county

    any help appreciated, cheers

repariable if you are patient enough and have the skill sets or want to pay for it.

usually cheaper to get a second handy.

if all the oil is gone youve lost a seal somewhere or have a leaking pipe and haven't been doing your prestarts. Running the pump dry will kill it quickly and require replacing.

Thanks mate, there's plenty of fluid - but there is no flow.. looking into the reservior (with the filter removed ) its as still as a duck pond, which makes me think there's no fluid circulation. It was working fine until I went full lock to get out of a car park.

jack up the front end and turn the steering by hand and have a look at whats going on. If you get flow that way then its a case of the pump is recirculating, It might be as simple as the over pressure valve has unseated and you just need to give the pump a bit of loving with the rubber mallet.
