    TD5 auto engine problems

    G'Day,

I have owned a '99 TD5 auto for 6 months and have had endless engine problems which may disappear or be even worse each time the ignition is cycled, I quickly learned that these have issues with oil being pumped through the injector harness and into the engine harness. I have been constantly clean all plug fittings around the engine, each time there is an improvement, but the engine running rough returns. I have replaced the MAF sensor (hard fault) fitted EGR blanking kit (EGR hard fault) replaced injector harness, replaced wastegate modulator, each time I clean or move something there is an improvement but the problem returns.

I have since found the engine oil has made its way into the fuse box in the engine, I have completely dismantled this and to my disgust it was full of oil, once cleaned and refitted it ran smooth and powerful, but within days the engine was struggling, lacking power and engine vibrates/revererates as engine travels up/down through 2250-2500 rpm this also effects gear changes.

I have now also replaced the engine harness as was also inundated with oil. On test drive after harness fitted drove smooth and power with the slightest roughness 2250-2500rpm, that was yesterday, today it's back to it's old tricks as if it can hold any memory.

I really like this car but I am almost beside myself with as it has not given me any joy yet, it has only done 100k.

Can anybody help to keep me sane?

replace the ECU, if you have that amount of oil in all thoes places, it WILL be inside the ecu.

whats another $600 ontop of whats already been spent.

    cheers phil

    Thumbs up

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for your input, I started to think ECU.

I had another look today after reading some other threads (some of which were your comments), I rechecked all the fuses and relays under bonnet and they were OK.

I have never checked the fuses relays under the dash, there are 2 fuses relating to the engine 1 10amp and 1 20 amp, the 10 amp checked out OK but the 20 amp had no power, tried another fuse still no power with ignition on, looking at the relays on the left of the fuses where there should be a relay for the engine, there was no relay, I fitted a relay that sits above this then had power to the 20 amp fuse.

I drove the car after this and it's a different car, the engine is now smooth and powerful and now drives the way I thought it should.

Someone has been playing with this car before I owned it, I've had it to several mechanics but no one has been able to locate any problems.

    Anyway thanks again,

    Grant

    wow, thats a new one.
looking at whats in there the only 2 that are engine critical are fuse #30 (20amp) cruise cont, electric mirrors, screen washer rear and DIESEL ECU
the other #24 (10amp) alternator, auto trans, and engine management.

but i would have thought that if either one was blown that the engine should not work at all?

fuse #30 is on the RHS 5up from the bottom and #24 is RHS 11 up, was it either one of thoes?

    cheers phil
