    starting problems 99 D2

Good day everyone, hope you are all well. I have a problem with my Disco. 2 [1999] - would not start and had to be towed to local workshop - computor diagnosed crank angle sensor problem, sensor replaced. Worked o.k. for 2 days, then same again. Managed to get it home in short bursts after waiting for 15 - 20 minutes before attempting start [each time]. This time the engine cut out twice.Interesting thing, I replaced badly worn shockies and the ride is now harder, everytime I go over bumps the check engine light comes on.Has anyone seen this before? I would appreciate any feedback,
    Cheers,Bob10.

I would suggest that the non-starting issue & the engine light coming on over bumps might just be related somehow.

Replacing worn shock absorbers usually results in a harder ride. Isn't that why you replace them; because the old ones were soft & worn out?

    Disco 99 starting problems

The old shocks were original, very soft and rolly, I replaced them with O.M.E. nitrocharger sports. It seems logical that the light and hard ride are related, and I can only think somewhere there is a wiring loom with a loose wire. The battery is leaking a small amount of acid into the battery compartment, and I'm wondering if the fumes may have corroded wiring , so I am checking all the connections in the vicinity.Iam also getting the battery checked. The search goes on!

In my experience OME shocks are much harder than OEM, and harshness is also increased because of the Poly bushes they use instead of rubber.

You could try to rerplace the bushes with rubber bushes as it may reduce the harshness, but the shock valving is another matter. The shock makers make them hard because that is what the buyer wants. IMHO good shocks should be transparent.

I have Bilstien comfort valving on my RRC and they are still harsher than OEM , but I am willing to accept it because of their quality and staying power on extreme corrugations.
To some extent it is a tradeoff, hard ride in the city vs good control at high speed. The OEM on Land Rovers is usually a very good compromise but they die on corrugations.

    Disco 99 starting problems.

My battery gave up the ghost, and after taking it out, I noticed it only had 640 cca.I have been told the Disco. needs at least 830 cca to have sufficient voltage for the computer setup. Not sure about that, going to get some more advice.Anyhow, trying to keep smiling, cheers
