    Depressurising fuel system

    Okay,

So one of the first things to do before pulling the heads off a 3.9 v8 is to depressurise the fuel system by removing the multiport injection relays as stated by Rave.

So I pull off the panel under the steering column and holy moly the amount of bullcrap in there. And guess what? Do you think I could find those relays - blue base and black base relay........well of course not, that would be too easy. So I didn't get far today, so maybe there is another way to find out which relays these are?

Why is it that when the weekends come, the weather turns out crap. all week has been great and then Saturday.... ruined. grrr lol

    Cheers

What model D1? If it is 1994 on with Serpentine engine, then remove fuel pump fuse in engine bay fuse box and start engine, run until stopped then crank a few more seconds to remove all residual pressure.
Early D1; remove fuel pump fuse in main fuse box under dash under steering column, then do the same; start until stops, then crank a while.

It should still have a fuel pump fuse... or just carefully undo the fuel lines.

Plastic fuel tank models have the access hatch in the rear cargo area floor, you can always remove the pump cable. Remember to leave the fuel tank cap slightly loose. Don't the relays live under the driver's seat with the ECU? Can't remember for sure but there's where they were on the 3.5 EFI RRC.

thats true, I should just find the pump fuse, then run it and the pressure should drop safely to undo hoses. Its got this great big 140L metal tank so I'm not sure about access. I'm still trying to locate where things are on this machine. I wonder if there's like a video tutorial somewhere of what is what and where.

The fuel pump relay of an RRC 92 anyway is under the drivers seat at the back on the front of the strengthener bar. Just push the seat forward and look. It is the blue one if original or the blue base.

PS I never do this. Just hold a rag under the connection to the regulator and undo it slowly, and let the fuel into the rag and put it outside to dry.

92 RRCs do not have one. But I do not know about 93s. The 92 also has the regulator on the RH side of the rail while the later discos have it on the left.
