    Question KBS vs POR15 Coatings

Not a techo question but--. I am in a nut and bolt restoration of my 1947 Buick Super. Has anyone worked out if the very expensive POR15 is so much better than the seemingly very similar KBS coatings. My chassis is back soon from the blasters.
    Thanks

I have had problems with POR15 peeling off the surface it was painted onto. Work preparation has to be spot on to get the value from this sticky damn paint.

I've still got some paint left and wouldn't hesitate to use it again but I would certainly prepare the surface better than i did before.

    Cheers,

    Phil

I used to use POR15 but have recently switched to KBS (only one job to date) - supposed to be identical and Australian made - and heaps cheaper.

KBS also have a UV stabilised gal product which I also used but found this a bit tedious as it was very thick. If I use this again I will get the correct thinners and dilute it a bit before applying. The finish is very good.

I have used POR 15 in the UK and I am impressed so far, I have also used the marine clean and metal ready to prepare, as the paint is expensive and did want to use it properly. Are POR 15 products freely avaliable in Australia?

I've used POR15 on my 2 door rangie as both a protective coating AND a fibreglass resin. It is very difficult to use as a resin but is very effective IMO. Surface prep is very important, marine clean is a great product as well as metal ready. Mine has held up great, the only time it has come off is when I missed a loose spot of rust and it flaked off, taking the paint with it.

I give my 2 door hell, there is a hole in the floor where your foot rests for the pedals, I have fibreglassed the hole with POR15 and it has not broken, fractured or peeled- and it has nothing on top of it!

Worth the money, but I suppose if the Australian product is identical, why not give it a try? Australian made and cheaper.. sounds pretty good.

EDIT: Yes, POR15 is sold at quite a few places over here. I buy it direct from the importer but you can get it from a couple of paint places too.

I originally used to use POR15 but when I found that KBS was made in Australia, I changed over to that. They both are nearly impossible to get off your skin if the gloves tear and you do not notice it. It has to wear off!!
