    Hi Bob
    Basically.
An upgraded fuel map is put into the ECU giving far greater performance, similar fuel economy and beter driveability.
You need to know the year model to see if the easyier to modify NNN prefix ECU(flashtuneable) is fitted.
Toombie 2 on here can help you with the upgrade.

    chipped?

Thank you Andrew, I understood all up to ANN-. Sounds like something I should do, however. I have recently purchased a Disco 2 1999, driven by an English couple who towed a van around aus. after buying it from Woollongong council. Spoke to the previous owner, who tells me he serviced and maintained it regularly. The vehicle has 300,000 Km's. on it, but is straight and very clean. It is my first L.R. , and Mate, I'm wrapped. I have replaced the front drive shaft with the greasable alternative, new E.M.U shocks, silicone hoses for the intercooler, new injector harness, she purrs like a kitten. Anything to improve performance [witin reason] I will consider. Thank you for your advice, cheers,

On the ECU (silver box just behind the battery) will be a serial number. There are 2 types. NNW or MSB(?). The NNW ones can be "flashed" or reprogrammed. The MSB ones cannot and you will need to either get another ECU or go with a plug-in chip.

Tombie has just done mine and it's been a fantastic mod well worth doing.

    Regards

Thank's, Waz, just checked mine, it is a M.S.B.. The mod. as I understand it, lifts engine performance, does it effect fuel economy?. How do I contact Tombie2 to discuss the issue further? I have to admit, modern vehicles with computers and electronics are a black art to me, but I am forcing myself to try to gain some understanding, and I have to admit, I do find it fascinating. Cheers,

    NNN not NNW
and the MSB can be re-chipped, where a new flashed eprom chip is soldered in.

    Purrs like a kitten

Having it chipped will make it growl like a tiger

If you like the Disco now wait until you have it chipped

You'll want to come back in the next life as a Defender, marry the Disco and make little Freelanders

My highway fuel consumption has dropped considerably but my city cycle is unchanged. I have put this down to running larger tyres(265/75R16) and needing more right boot to get off the line.
