well that was an interesting morning

all bolted up and fitted, bled, behaving very nicely.

a couple of things to note

the 3 bolt box bolts will not fit the 4 bolt steering box.

you need to get 4 bolts from a donor 4 bolt box and also the cross support arm and the two bolts and nuts that hold that in place as they are all different.

i had to drill out the holes in the chassis with a 7/16 drill to get the 4 bolt bolts thru to the box.

all up the job took less than 3 hours including draining and cleaning the oil reservoir and changing the filter etc.

i even managed to line the splines up correctly the first time round as an added bonus

thank to those that helped with info etc etc.

Errr, MAny many apologies Dave, forgot to mention the change to metric bolts too...

Glad it is all OK. BTW, thanks for the PM, Have noticed that Ebay store before, may have to direct a few enquiries there if you think they are OK?

    3 bolt to 4 bolt

So from what I have read, a 3 bolt can be replaced with a 4 bolt box?
Will this work on my 81 RR?

    yep

    as above

you need the steering box with drop arm

the mounting bolts and support plate with fixings from a donor

and the adapter fittings to use your original hoses on the 4 bolt

i replaced the filter in the power steering reservoir as well

    3 hour job at most.

    Hi Incisor.

I am just about to fit a 4 bolt replacing a 3 bolt. Your posts have been very informative, but I have a question.
What do you mean by "adapter fittings to use the original hose fittings"?
Also, did you have to bleed the steering box after install?

    Thanks

there is an olive and a screwed fitting that adapts the old imperial hoses to the metric bits on the new steering box

and you need to bleed it in the usual manner...

    Hi Incisor.
Must be nice to be so popular.

You mentioned an olive and something else to adapt to the metric threads, but where can I get these from?

    Thanks

    Hi all, but particularly Inc,
I'm about to do the same conversion (3 bolt to 4 bolt box) in my One Ten, hopefully next week. I didn't get any hoses or bolts with the steering box.

Before I pull everything out and am thoroughly stuck vehicle-less, where can the conversion parts alluded to earlier in the thread be acquired?

There may be two kits, one with hose adapters, the other with bolts, nuts and a cross support arm.

    Thanks for any help...
