I have something similar... But with 4 LEDS...

Will be doing a 'members rides' write-up on the changes to the D2 when I get enough time to fit everything, photograph it all and write it up.

Prime electronics http://ns.prime-electronics.com.au/i...hp/strips.html in brissie or sydney do these strips... i use them on my deck (have curved sections i wanted lit) they are bright and from what i remember very cheap too. something like 0.5a current draw too it isnt much...
From the site they look a little different. The Hong Kong ones are very cheap at about $10 plus postage. They are fully sealed and quite thin in cross section so they fit on the tailgate flange.

I also have one zip tied to the top ridge of my camper trailer. They are quite robust, and I had to take one out of the camper as my wife complained they were too bright when I had 2 paralleled.

This is one model I've been thinking about:
    Products

I saw it posted on another forum but have not yet picked up the phone to see what they're worth. The page gives you an idea of the sort of light you can expect from it too.

Here are some hellishkly expensive (though bright) LED work lights whih can also be used as spot / floods gather. Hmm.

    link to come

we just recently received a batch of LED Light bars, which was flown in by EDI-T Australia
    N
    umbers are very limited.

They only run on DC power, and have an inbuilt control circuit that automatically detects the input current, choosing 9V, 12V, 24V or 36V DC as appropriate. If you want to run them off 240V you will need a transformer. We should have the transformers in stock very soon.

There has been lots of interest from sporting facilities, stock handlers, and roo shooters and we feel certain that these lights will revolutionise outdoor lighting. Similar lights were introduced by an American company "Rigid Industries" not long ago who mainly promoted them for vehicle lighting. We believe that our lights are more robustly constructed with lower profile, easily adjustable mounting system and tougher lenses. These lights are great for 4WDs and quad bikes as they draw very little power, and unlike HID lights can be run with very small batteries. We are going out to try one of these lights on the 4x4 this Sunday and will film the performance. So stay tuned for the good old YouTube clip…

We got them in three sizes and here are some specs:

    8" LED Bar (12 x 3 Watt Cree LED) - 2160 Lumen - Draws 3 Amps @ 12 Volts - Available in Spot & Flood
    12" LED Bar (20 x 3 Watt Cree LED) - 3600 Lumen - Draws 5 Amps @ 12 Volts - Available in Spot & Flood
    22" LED Bar (40 x 3 Watt Cree LED) - 7200 Lumen - Draws 10 Amps @ 12 Volts - Available in Spot & Flood

And if any of you are interested we can also get the real big ones with a 52" 100 LED bar producing a massive 18,000 lumen!!

Quality is outstanding. They are rated to up to 100,000 hours life, and they use only a few percent of the power of a Halogen light. They represent a massive advance in lighting efficiency. They have a waterproof rating of IP68 which is the same as a submersible pump! The lights have an extruded alloy body and tempered glass lens. They are water, dust and impact-proof - they are tested to 9G. We believe they are a lifetime purchase - they certainly have that look about them.

    The Price….?

Well, they are not cheap at first glance, but in saying that, they are not more expensive than the HIDs and considering the longevity and economic power consumption, they are worth every penny.
    1. L-120 8" - 12 x 3 Watt Cree - 36 Watt - 3 Amps Draw (12V) - 2160 Lumen - $470 each

    2. L-200 12" - 20 x 3 Watt Cree - 60 Watt - 5 Amps Draw (12V) - 3600 Lumen - $ 750

    3. L-400 22" - 40 x 3 Watt Cree - 120 Watt - 10 Amps Draw (12V) - 7200 Lumen - $ 990

Please note, we only have a fairly limited stock So be quick if you would like one.

If interested you can PM us, or call me on 0412 439 115.

The issue is not "are LEDs capable" of providing a broad spread for "work". LEDs are more than capable of producing that light. The issue is, does the light you are looking at have a reflector(s) that will provide the spread you want. The reflector is likely to be hugely different between brands and is the "smart" part of the light.

We have been playing with Tyri lights (TYRI - Work, Directional and warning lights for Heavy Duty Off-Road applicatons) at work to go on some "green" vehicles, and they work bloody well. But they are not cheap. There are certainly other options.

Me...Im waiting to see what Tombie has dreamed up this time.....so I can have one!

I bought one of these also and it arrived yesterday.
Mine was from a different seller who claimed his contained genuine Cree LED's but it looks exactly the same and the specs are the same.

The output is great - it exceeded my expectations and the beam pattern is certainly wide enough to illuminate a wide area - its definitly not a spotlight. I'd say its noticeably brighter than a 55w Halogen work light I had previously with a much whiter light and 1/3 the power consumption.

Mounted up on a pole, one would be enough for a campsite. Mine will be going on top of my roll bar and will double as a reverse light/camp light.
