    TD5 oil filter change

On the weekend decided to change the oil in the TD5. All was going well until I tried to put the new filter on - which I got from a reputable LR supplier but is not a genuine LR. I struggled for 1/2 an hour but to no avail, even loosened the turbo oil line that sits underneath the filter to give some extra room, but still no go. I tried the old LR filter twice and went on without a problem. Eventually I got the micrometer out and measured the female threads and the new filter was .4mm narrow in diameter compared to the LR filter. So on went the old filter - which I hate doing. I know alot of people say change the filter on every 2nd oil change, but I like doing it every oil change.I contacted the company that I bought the filter from and they said that they have never heard of this happening before, and offered me a credit for it right away.
Now the real question is how much oil will I loose if I take the oil filter off without first draining the motor? Is it really worth the hassel and should I change the oil and filter a bit sooner than normal (10,000k's)?
    What should I do?

This may sound stupid. But it wasn't a fuel filter you were trying to fit was it ?

for the price, i always get gen filters for everything, and never had a problem with threads, oil lines yes threads no, and iv seen non gen filters for the rotor filter eat at the housing as they are slightly different,

so make sure your rotor filter is genuine!!!
