Thanks for the info. I guess for sliders I might put a 10mm hole in each end, and maybe a drain hole in the bottom. That way I can run a hose into it to give it a through clean out.

I'm definitely going to paint the sliders, not sure whether I'll paint or powdercoat the wing tops. Powder coating would be easier I 'spose.

You can still paint over hot dip gal, the type of paint can be whatever you prefer.

Can't remember exactly,but it was near Accacia Ridge somewhere.Long way from where you are,Eagle Farm would be better.
Also remember to make all bolt holes next size bigger as the gal coating will make them smaller.As you said you also need holes in any vessel,i think this is to let the pressure out as it is treated.
Maybe leave say 20mm holes in each end of the sliders so the gal can get in & they can be washed out.

Thats NIG at Wacol on Orchid road, near the Coke Factory, the place might look a bit post apocalyptic, but they are the cheapest in Brisbane, my dad get's a lot of irrigation equipment galvanised all the time.
And yeh, make sure you drill holes in all the steel on both ends, 10mm will do the trick, and also make sure the you get rid of any flux on your welds, if you are using a stick welder.

Holes in the corners are better so the gal runs out whichever way they pick it up.

It all depends where the item is going on your car, as said before if it is subject to abrasion and knocking then I would go paint, if it is a very visible piece (trim etc) that does not get so much abuse like wing tops, then powdercoat, use satin looks great.
Wheels I think should be painted, powdercoat will chip and flake when knocked and when weights are put on/off.
I have heard many stories about the powdercoat of branded accessories not being of a good quality, don't let that put you off, a good powdercoater will do a job that will last years.
Another alternative is electrostatic paint, its then baked and will give a good hard finish.

I would always recommend painting over gal, the gal will erode over time and the paint will keep it like new underneath.
