Funny Story time! I don’t wish to offend anyone, but I just can’t help the way some of these threads remind me of the first job I had after I finished my trade as a fitter turner . It was at a little speed shop where we used to build drag cars and sell expensive things to young men who can’t afford to feed their kids, I was so misguided! They had this fat American guy who used to con kids into spending heaps,(mainly on head’s) and they really didn’t get that much for their dollar, they just couldn’t get low 10’s from their mum’s torana, the retreads would fly off. It was all pretty much a scam. I walked out in disgust , never to return, when I learnt all I needed to know about drag racing and a few of the people in it. He’s some of the formulas:

Drug sales X young people = Fast car
    Bullshi*x talk + money= scam
    Honesty + unemployed + v8= starving kids
    Unemployment+ v8/ drugs= crime

Sorry I'm just having a momnent!

BAng for Buck ? what you changed from one crappy manifold to another and picked up a whole 10HP if your Lucky . Your Dreaming !! Drop the mufflers off , it will have more effect to your seat of the pants meter readings !! LMFAO

you obviously have a lot of knowledge regarding enginge performance the trouble is I find it hard to get clear consise information out of you in you comments as they are often phrased in a negative manner.

I have put up posts about power gains - I think just about everyone on here that is not an expert has. I chose to go for the 4.6 as opposed to the chev as it was a much faster and cheaper change over. As the engine is stock standard there must be power gains that can be made from this engine - I think this is what most of us are asking

What can we do to our engines to get more power out of them? Not if a chev engine is better than a rover engine or a V10 Viper engine dropped into it add wings and it will fly.

Surely there is enough people on here that there can be some sort of constructive consensus of what to do to improve our engines power output; from not needing additional component strengthening to full kit?

no seat of the pants stuff, It's as real as this planet your spaceship has crash landed on. (welcome btw)

before in 5th (2600rpm) = no overtaking and forget about 110kph with a head wind. foot well planted just to cruise.

after in 5th (2600rpm) = put the foot down, overtake ok. 110k cruise just light throttle. will sit on 130k easy with heaps more left.

If thats only a 10hp gain, I'm happy with that.
you may be right in the peak power gained - but average power accross the rev range, that does actually make a very real difference.

best few hundred $ I've ever spent on the motor.

And stuff dropping the mufflers - dropping the aircleaner is the best sound, and made a big difference. pity about the stupid airborne dust thing. Kind of look forward to the LPG manifold explosions now, just so i can hear that scary sexy intake sound.

Still seat of the pants proof, why dont you use a Rolling road Dyno ?
You ever considered the fact that your original manifold was seriously stuffed , and you have done no more than correct that ? So your scientific seat of the parts methodology of changing parts until it works better suits you fine .Did you consider the air temp/air density/ gearing/tyre pressure /fuel grade / timing settings or decline/incline, head or Tail wind or 101 other factors. What were you Vac readings Before and after the Manifold change at Idle, cruise and WOT ?
Besides , on my Planet , we have such amazing technology as Rolling road dyno's , engine Dyno's and World class Dragstrips .

will be off to the dyno when i change the spark setup. No point going before to get told something i already know.

If tuned length manifolds are so crap, why are they fitted to pretty much all new engines? Pretty much a very well proven concept.

Why do you think they're no good?
