Tricks for Steering Wheel Removal - D2A?

I have the airbag off, lock nut off, stuck pretty firm.
I have left in, at this stage, the audio and cruise control buttons, and also the plastic "frame" that holds all the connectors and wiring in place inside the steering wheel.

Im thinking the correct way to do this, is to remove all switches, and plastic trim, and then se if I can get a sprocket/hub removal tool in there.

    But....anyone got any easier ways

If it's like older RRCs then there should be 2 small threaded holes, one either side of the shaft.
Two appropriate bolts with a piece of steel with holes drilled for the bolts to bridge across the end of the shaft should then do it easily.
But then who knows how much more complex they have made later cars.
