Hi all, have a problem. My disco batteries are dead and has a dual batt system. It just hasnt been driven for months. I have a battery charger here but unsure if there is a specific way that dual batteries need to be charged from wall power? Its not a trickle charger, the other type, whatever that is.
Also while on the subject, is there a diagram on how to jump start a dual batt and also jump off it safely?
Thanks

Hi milsy, sounds like you have a single stage battery charger and if so, you actually more likely to be able to get a charge into one or both of your batteries then you are with a multi stage charger.
Most multi stage chargers have a low voltage setting where if the battery voltage is below this point, the charger will not try to charge the battery.
Whereas if you charger is a single stage battery charger, it doesn’t actually monitor the battery at all, it just applies a charge and hopes for the best.
Try disconnecting the negative off one of the batteries and then connecting your battery charger to the other battery and then just keep an eye on that battery to make sure it doesn’t heat up.
If it starts to get warm, disconnect the charger for a few hours and then repeat.
It may take a few hours to get any form of charge into the battery and may take a few days to fully charge it, IF IT CAN BE RECHARGED.
Once one battery is charged, if it can be, then do the same to the other. Don’t forget to remove the negative lead from the now charged battery before you start charging the second battery
You could try jump starting and while this is much easier and quicker, it is also much harder on the batteries and if the batteries are in a bad state, the much higher charging current has the potential of stuffing one or both of them.
