Yes oils again... but cant find answers?

    Hi Guys

Just looking for general input.. defender 2002 extreme

Service is due... tomorrow.. ! i have ordered some syntrans 75/85 for the gearbox as its notchy when cold.. but have tried to find recomendations for the transfer and diffs... no joy..

Its rover diffs front and rear and i'm assuming an lt230 transfer

I could do with capacity too if you dont mind.

Edit forgot to say its used for towing quite a bit too..

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

I run Penrite Hypoid 80-90 in the diffs and transfer.

    HYPOID 80W-90 - Penrite Oil

Transfer case from memory is about 2.7 litres
Diffs are less. a bit under 2 litres each I think.

    Here's a good start -
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/good-oil/7...g-rick130.html

    TC is 2.3 litres
Diffs are 1.7 litres each, unless oil fed wheel bearings, then more like 5 litres for diff and bearings and, maybe 3 litres for rear.

Hi Steve, No I run a Rover type. The Penrite link specifies its fine in spiral bevel diffs too.

The other threads linked, and the ones in the 'good oil' section while having some really good info are a bloody nightmare to navigate.

Someone needs to do a table with the different engine/egarboxes/transfer cases etc which we can post up as sticky. it would make life a lot easier.... in fact I may do that.

I run mobil Delvac1 synthetics for both engine and driveline as we have it off the pump in the workshop for all the late model Actros trucks.

    Fella's.
In my '04 Td5 Disco, I run Castrol Edge 5w30 in the engine, Caltex MTF94 in R380, Castrol syntrax 75W90 in transfer and at the moment, LSD compatable (although I dont have LSD) Castrol EP Gear oil to OEM specs. Next change I will run Syntrax 75w90 in diffs. MTF 94 is no longer availabe, so when I run out I will run Syntrans 75W85. Do yourself a favour and get a rave cd, all info at your fingertips.
    Regards Robbo.

    Hi,
    Isn't Delvac1 an engine oil?
Do you run it in the whole drive line?

The Delvac name covers Mobil's HD oil range, eg Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40 engine oil, Delvac synthetic 75W-90 GL5 gear/diff fluid (the old SHC 75W-90), Delvac MX 15W-40 engine oil, Delvac 1330 15W-40 engine oil, etc

This is easier, here's a link
