    What size nuts?

No I'm not talking male apendages here, I just had my gearbox replaced and the guys who did it have failed to refit the exhaust to the manifold properly. 1 nut has been stripped and the other is completely missing. The vehicle is a 97 D1 V8 and I'm wondering if someone can tell me what size nuts I need to be ordering to stop the exhaust leak. I rang my LR mechanic back in Perth but he is on holidays, but was told that "I think they are 3/8 UNC". I have rung a couple of places but haven't been able to confirm this. Can anyone help me out with this?

Not sure on the nut front, but are you in Derby WA? Up near the Kimberley? I am working about 150km from there at the moment.

Yeah, that's where I live. Where abouts are you? I've just got back from a 1400km trip through the West Kimberley, managed to get all the way up to Walcott Inlet. There's some fantastic country through there with virtually no-one else around, which makes it even better. I've had to put up with this leaking exhaust for virtually the whole trip so am looking forward to getting it fixed.

I am staying at an exploration camp. We are about 30 km south of the main road, approx 120km from Fitzroy Crossing. It is an old abandoned station called Paradise.

Plenty of exploration going on around here. If you happen to be in town at any time, look out for me. Good luck.

M8, and I would say the manifold may have to come off to repair/ drill out the broken one. They are sometimes stainless, and work harden...

Thanks heaps for that JC, both studs are still there but the single nut that was on the centre one has been stripped. I can't see if the thread on the stud has been stripped or if it is still in usable condition. I should be able to source nuts locally if they are M8's so shall see how I go tomorrow. Thanks again.
