I have recently removed the battery from my 98 Discovery 1... and as a result am required to put in the security code which i do not have and can not source as the dealer from which the vehicle was purchased has closed down.
Is there any way around this other then buying a new unit...

Strange you mention this very issue........ I have had a battery replacement on the cards for some time and knew I would need the radio codes once the car was re-energised. I never got the codes when I bought my TD5 2nd hand so this was a worry.
Pulled the battery out yesterday (Tuesday) and decided to give it a full charge overnight to see if it would be OK as I do a lot of short trips with heater. demister and lights on due to Canberra winter.....it charged up fine so I replaced it back into the car late this afternoon and blow me down.......the radio is fine.
No codes needed - I just turned it on and good old ABC National came straight back on with more political spin![]()
hi. the dealer use two systems to check vehicle id and security codes. the new and main system they use is ddw and most probaley will not have record of the radio code also in australia they use a system called viking this may have your code. most make of radio in l/r at that age was eurvox if you remove the radio and get the serial number of the unit the code can obtained from gotech who handle eurvox or ask your nearest dealer to source once you have the serial number
Hi, I believe you can get a 9V battery in a cig lighter plug arrangement from some of the auto accessories places. With the key on accessories, the 9V battery will keep the codes alive in the radio supposedly.
Never done it, only read about it.
cheers
You could also hook up a couple of leads attached to another battery and clip the other end to the body earth and to the engine bay fuse panel to "keep the Vehicle alive", then change the battery and hook your original cables back, then disconnect the temp leads.
What make are those stereo's
Most Discoveries had Eurovox radios.
Top of the line models (ES, LS) had a factory fitted radio though.
