    Cruise control

    Hi guys,

Where is the controller unit for the cruise control located in the D1?

Issue I'm having is the cruise vacuum unit is missing a pipe. Problem is I'm not sure where the other end of the pipe is meant to terminate or to what.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Shaun

I'd start from the front and work back. Under the passenger side battery tray where the jack sits and its got 3 or 4 rubber feet that protrude to the underside. If you lay on your back infront of the front left wheel you will see them. zacc

    Thanks for the info.

I have tried to find the control unit as suggested with no luck.

Is there possibly a diagram of the unit, and a wiring / piping diagram to trace / replace the unit and the piping to the vacuum unit.

    TIA
    Shaun

The cruise control ECU is inside the car (not too sure where on a D1) but it doesn't have any vacuum lines going to it.
A vacuum line does go the the brake pedal switch though if that's any help.

The pipe runs from the pump as described then to a junction behind the washer bottle. Then one way to the throttle butterfly thing and the other way to the clutch and brake pedals. The pedal switches are just on the pedal assembly just like the brake light switch but pneumatic.
The RAVE manual has a good problem solving section for the cruise control. Also there are two nipples on the pump but only one hose. From memory the hose goes on the nipple with the smaller hole.

The pump itself only has one hose, to test that you are maintaining a vacuum pull off the pipe connecting to the throttle diaphram and suck on it.

If you can't maintain a vacuum then crimp each of the hoses at the t-junction to find out which hose is broken. You may need to crimp the one going to the pump regardless as I think from memory it only closes when the pump is in operation.

ECU is located behind the glove box on the passenger side, and you need small hands or a big hammer to get it out.

To test the pump is simple. pull out the pump and hook it up to a spare battery and put your finger over one of the tubes. If there isn't a vacuum then it's the pump....

    EDIT:

I should also add that you may get a false result when testing the line going to the pedals for vacuum, there are switches above and behind the pedals, the switchers are on a ratchet type system, so it's possible that the plungers have been pushed too far in. To test this then all you need to do is pull on the plungers, pull them out a couple of clicks, don't worry about pulling them out too far as they will rest themselves once you use the pedals again.
