No electronics, purely mechanical.
There is a mod that can be done so that you can get lockup in 3rd gear which is a better option for towing.
About $800 drive in/drive when I enquired about a year ago.

Lock up occurs at around 82kph,
is this triggered electronicly or from pressure?
Im trying to find out if there is a way to get the converter out of lock-up at say 90-95 kph for towing needs, just in top but out of lock-up.

ok,
i Have to discoverys with different gearing, but both go into lockup at 82 kph, so thats where i got the hope it may have triggered from the speed sensor or something
Hi,
Some sort of centrifugal switching type arrangement from what I've been told, and all mechanical which is a shame in a way.
It would be nice to be able to mod the autos so you can select if you want the lockup or not as has been done with the cruiser 5 speed and others with electronic triggered lock ups.
Turn it on in first for downhill descents to aid with engine braking and then keep it out for towing in some situations....
If only the missus liked manuals?
82km/hr indicated on the speedo, unless you've changed the gear on the speedo head will lockup the convertor, doesn't matter if you've altered gearing there after at all, the rev's will likely be the same, the tacho is driven from the alternator field winding, not the negative of the coil like it should, so its very easy to have discrepencies
When I have the time to put my 94 off the road I am going to put in a ZF4HP24E and fit a compushift to it. Yours and mine is a ZF4HP22 - the 24 is stronger and being electronic has much more room to make it change as you want.
