    flat clutch pedal

    Hi all,
The other month I found that I didnt have a clutch pedal - popped the bonnet - no fluid, topped it up,pumped it a few times to get the fluid thru the system and no probs since .
This morning when I jumped in the car,put the foot on the clutch and felt it very flat, checked the fluid- OK , started car and proceeded down the road,it took the best part of 2 dozen goes on the clutch b4 it seemed to come back up to the normal position. As far as i know the clutch was replaced when the gearbox was replaced just b4 I bought it.
There's no obvious leaks inside or under the bonnet
Any ideas as to what could be the problem..
    Thanks

Can we just clarify that you didn't bleed the system after topping up the empty reservoir?

The fluid has to be going somewhere. The most common problem I've had with Tdi Defender clutches is the master cylinder leaking from around the inside of the rubber piston cup where it pushes onto the shaft, which in a Defender ends up running down the clutch pedal and dripping on the driver's floor.

A kit is cheap as (something like $18) and it takes me about an hour or two to fit.
