    Exclamation TD5 won't start

    Hi all

I have checked the other threads on this subject and nothing has worked yet.
The ignition lights come on, but the only thing that happens when I turn the ignition key is the radio and heater display turns off. The ignition lights stay on, it just won't turn over. I have checked everything electrical that I can think of (battery, fuses, connections etc). does anyone have any ideas what may cause this problem.

Is your fuel pump running when the ignition is turned on, should go for about 30 seconds each time. You can normally hear this when you go close to the tank. If not, the problem could be in a relay under the drivers seat (This happened to us once). Else the inertia relay may be tripped.

Whilst under the drivers seat, is there oil on the base of the seat box - sure sign of oil in the wiring loom.

If the fuel pump is running, can you hear the starter solenoid relay click when trying to start. If yes, possible connection fault, low battery or starter solenoid problem.

The only sensor on the TD5 which will stop the engine running is the crank angle sensor.

Do you have a FOB with the key - flat FOB battery?

    Thanks Erich,
I will have a look under the seat. I had the Crank angle sensor replaced last service. It's a bit hard to hear the fuel pump because of the traffic noise.

If its an Auto its not something silly like not in P or N, if its a manual can you put it in gear and rock it make sure the starters not jammed..

    Sounds like a dead battery.

Thanks to you all for your quick responces. It turned out to be the small spade connector to the starter solenoid. It looked as though it was on, but not quite enough to get a good connection. If nothing else I have checked everything that has been mentioned and they are okay.
