    Adjusting steering box on D2

Okay so i have play in my steering i have looked at the rave cd on how to adjust quoted from rave cd
    1. Loosen lock nut on steering box adjuster and
tighten adjuster until movement is removed at
    universal joint.
CAUTION: Ensure that steering box is
    centralised before adjustment. Never over
adjust, free play should just be eliminated.
    2. When adjustment is correct, hold the adjuster
    and tighten adjuster locknut.
    3. Turn steering wheel from lock to lock and check
    no tightness exists.
    4. Fit drag link to drop arm, and tighten nut to 80
    Nm (59 lbf.ft).
    5. Remove stands and lower vehicle.

the highlighted section how tight should it be how much movement should i leave as i have tightened mine to where it can not go any more but i still have a fair bit of movement in steering shaft does this mean my steering box is rooted

    cheers Kelvin

hi, i normally do this with all the shafts connected and in the straight ahead postion, i use the steering wheel to feel for the free play before you see the rhf wheel move and adjust just enough out, you are normally left with about an inch of movement but you could go tighter. the problem with that is the most wear is in the straight ahead position so if you over tighten and then you turn on lock it will be to tight, also make sure your track rod and draglink joints are ok.
