Now I had a very similar noise / vibration and had a landy mechanic trying to nut the vibration out also. I checked everything, ripped off drive shafts checked and balanced, repeated this again. Thought tyres, ripped off and balanced, diffs?,hubs?,auto?.bearings?
I replaced the rear watts link bushes and bingo!!!. all gone.
This problem seemed to occur quite quickly also.I have put it down to the rear wheels moving around to much not tracking properly, and the vibration and noise was at the same speeds you are talking about.
Hope this is all it is.

    drone

Had the same noise you decribe ,at approx thoose speeds. I took the loadrail type roof bars off that i had on and noise has gone. Had this problem with d1 and d2, bars only go on when i need them now.
    cheers Ecka.

are there any vibrations or just the droning sound?

Definitely sounds like a crook bearing of some kind. Does it change anything when cornering?

Just the factory sports bars fitted, but they've always been there so I'd be surprised if it was from the next to useless roof bars I have.

I'll have to check that to be sure, but I haven't noticed it change during cornering.

What about the diff? Not sure how the hub, CV joint etc etc all bolts up on the D3 but when reasembling they may have over tightened something maybe?

New tyres and the problem is still there. I also tried to record the noise so maybe someone might find that useful to make a diagnosis but the sound doesn't record, well not at the volume you can hear it whilst in the cabin.

The vibration seems to be at a fairly high oscillation, and the sound seems to be more of a resonation in your ears than an actual audible noise. Closest I can come up with is it feels like you are in one of those cars that when you put just one window part way down makes that annoying noise and resonation.

    Hard to explain
