To start with I would remove fuse 26 (air suspension main supply) from the engine compartment fuse box with the vehicle at normal height to prevent the system from being able to drop the air. If it still drops then the compressor's exhaust valve is opening by itself although not likely to dump air suddenly, only leak slowly. (EDIT: wont be this with on a 2nd compressor).

It sounds like a faulty connector or broken wire somewhere. The suspension will not drop if it looses just 1 height sensor so it has to be loosing at least 2 or loosing the speed signal. It could also be power short to ground perhaps on a sensor supply wire which will probably take out all 4 sensors but wont blow the 20A fuse, only shutting down the suspension ecu's 5V supply to sensors. The front sensors are in 1 wiring harness and the rears another.

Diagnostics should indicate a failing component that would give a clue as to what wiring to check. Has the wiring behind the front left wheel been checked that it hasn't been rubbing on the tyre, perhaps creating a short circuit?

    Hope it gets sorted soon.

and another question would be ..... Has this car ever been in a accident, and been attended to via the smash repairers?

Even if the vehicle is out of the time warranty, there is a requirement under the Trade Practices Act of goods being fit for purpose for a reasonable length of time. This usually exceeds the "warranty" period. I suggest you peruse the Act (get a copy from the web) and search some commentaries re. warranties provisions...then get a letter written...you may be surprised... as well as to LRA, email a copy of the letter also to the ACCC and LR UK ... If you have a solicitor mate to assist you drafting it...all the better

must be frustrating, but land rover can make a reliable car. No manufacturer is devoid of making a lemon.

There are plenty of later model land rover owners on here having trouble free motoring.

Maybe take it to a land rover specialist like bruce davis as opposed to a dealer.

    Hi guys

    Thanks for all the feedback

The car hasn't been in an accident before, it had been running perfectly fine for over a year before this suspension problem first appeared.

I have tried an independent (Ritters) initially, but they couldn't find the problem and hence it ended up at a LR dealer.

Will be taking it back to them (when I can find the time ) as they now have an obligation to fix it given that they said it was all fixed.

I will definitely be going after them in regards to the trade practices act as I would reasonably expect that the entire suspension wouldn't fail only 1 year out of warranty.

Don't know the fault codes as I don't have anything to read it with. From what I can gather, they are of no use as neither the dealer and independent were able to ascertain the exact problem. Wiring has been checked and some suspect wiring was repaired, but it evidently wasn't the problem..

Graeme - I read your comments with interest, however I'm loathe to start playing with things while I'm still involving the dealer. Very interesting about the 2 sensors failing though. Apparently there was a TSB on the sensors and LR did replace the front 2 sensors (and the transfer valve). But again, no good.
