    Oil Filter change tool

What a nightmare to get at! I am guessing, being non technical, that there is some kind of tool to make undoing and tightening the oil filter in a 2006 Defender. What is it called and where can I get one (or am I way off ..)

Make one of these out of a piece of 3mm flat steel.

    Oil Filter Wrench

I have one of these. Works a treat and costs bugger all - you open the loop, put it around the filter and then turn the metal part until it is tight - then slip a screw driver in the whole and use it as a lever. dead easy and works every time!

    Spot on Stig ,
its only the size of screwdriver that varies the amount of oil you cop in the face .Moral dont change the engine oil if the engines hot , it burns LMFAO

I have had no probs using the sharp corner of a longish screwdriver pushed into the filter and layed up against the exhaust just push into the filter and against the exhaust. Hey presto it turns and off it comes. The secret is dont do it up to tight. Another secret is not to puncture the filter with the screwdriver, you dont need to. Good luck.
PS, I got this tip from Justin Cooper.

i have one of the 3 armed one that Stig is talking about. I had one of the strap one and it used to slip all the time so i canned it and bought one of the three armed ones.

Works with a 3/8th drive ratchet and fits all sizes of filters. Matt
