Thread: Disco electric window has died --again

My drivers side window will not go all the way up. It stops about 1/8" from the top with much chattering of the mechanism. The chattering starts a few inches from the top.
I would guess that the gear teeth in the lifting mech. have been ground away. Thought of taking the whole lot out and welding the teeth up and filing them to shape. Or maybe I should just buy another. Bit p---ed off as this will be the third mechanism!

i had the same issue with my D1 last year, i just got a second hand gear mechanism and swapped the motor onto it, problem solved.

I tried welding mine aswell, the curved gear section is spot welded onto the rest of the bracket and the spot welds give way. I tried welding it into place but it never worked right, in the end it just wouldnt go up all the way so i bought a s/h one from british 4wd and fitted that, problem solved.
