    Petrol Injectors

Hi all, just enqiuring about the availability of alternative fuel injectors for my 93 D1 3.5. What is avail and what sort of cost? Any major problems with DIY or is this a job best left to the pros? Reason Im asking is that Ive been told that my injectors need cleaning after 270,000ks to cure a running rich problem. Blows heaps of black smoke under accelaration when the revs get up to about 3500 and above. With a gentle right foot I can get around town about400-420ks to a tank. Also, when I pulled the plugs, 1/2 of the tip was brown and the other 1/2 was black. Havent seen a burn pattern like that on plugs before. Any ideas and info greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob

What was the quote for cleaning the injectors?

LR were clearing injectors at a special price (around $50 each) a couple of weeks ago - I thought about buying a set.

Aprox $250 plus puling and refitting them. By the way, my inj are nice shiny black ones with a green stripe around them. Thats if my eyesight is right, I didnt have my extra eyes on at the time. And that price was from a L/R wksp. No mention of the cheap injectors though. Bob

If your fuel rail pushes into the injector, search the forums for Bosch GenIII injectors. Both Mike90RR an myself have threads on these.

If you have a hose connection between the rail and injector then check with a fuel injection specialist as aparently there are a few options available also.

    Cheers

If it the car isa disco 3.5 then it is a 14CUX and will have push in injectors, and can be fitted with the Bosch gen111 ( Ford Mustang) injectors. There are numerous US sites selling these cheap.
    Regards Philip A
PS, they are the yellow ones if you ebay Ford Mustang injector.

Beware when shopping. The 19 lb Ford Mustang / Ford Motorsport Yellow Top pintle style are made by Denso and their spray pattern is only marginally better than Lucas/green band disc style in 14CUX. They were popular before matching Bosh Gen II and Gen III's (if you don't mind not having rail clips) became available. The Bosch units with their quicker burn are probably= 2 degrees of advance.

You will find Bosch units from the US ranging from approx $400 (new with warranty) to $120+ (used cleaned/balanced) per set delivered to your door.

Interestingly the Lucas units while pretty ordinary compared to modern designs, they are probably the quietest injector ever built.
