we used them inthe top end abck in the 80's when most of the roads off of the main highways were dirt.

very effective easy to use and clean, but they are noisy - mind you it was also before most work 4wd's had airconditioners so it was with the windows down

Donaldson have a newer version called 'Top Spin' that automatically ejects the dust so you don't have to clean the bowl each day.

Bear in mind that they are technically made for low speed equipment, IIRC Donaldsom didn't recommend them for highway use (and yes i know, everyone has used them on highway equipment since Pedro was a boy )
