Thread: 12V Supply To Rear Cargo Area

I would run it frequently cable-tied to the fuel lines along the rhs chassis rail, then come up through the floor grommet by the rhr tail light. This route is well protected and should not need much shielding. So long as the cable is protecte by a suitable fuse/circuit breaker there should be no risk.

Thanks for the quick reply. The feed will be protected by a 50 amp waterproof circuit breaker in the engine bay next to the battery and a 6 way hot feed fuse panel in the boot to supply the various outlets that will be fitted.

next you'll be asking what connectors to use-- where's that can of worms smiley?

My job is electrical/mechanical fit out of powerboats so I kinda know what connectors to use

Odd you should mention it - I was about to ask the question. I need to connect some spotties I've just fitted to the rear of my roof rack and they need to be some sort of quick disconnect for when the rack is removed.

Ok, I'll look in my catalogues.

Back to the cable run. I ran the cable for my second battery (which is in the spare wheel well) along the chassis and up through an existing grommet in the rear quarter panel.

for an inside power feed I run it down the top of the wing in through a grommet on the firewall and then up under the carpet and the trim panel at the bottom of the doors.

for an external power feed I run it inside the chassis rail and I do not recommend tying off of the fuel lines it works Im just not keen on it theres plenty of other points you can use.

I always run double insulated wire not figure 8 stuff for main power feeds and if Its going inside the chassis rail or is likely to be able to rub on something then I'll usually wrap it in spiral wrap or the split conduit.
