Suspected Head Gasket Problem 300TDi
Greetings,
I'm a first time 'poster'. I am having issues with my '95 300TDi.
Just been to Lake Eyre, 2700kms, then 57 ks from home temp guage flicker, pulled over and black expansion tank had split along seem.
Towed home ( full marks to RAA, replaced tank, but now having bubbles from top of Filler in thermostat housing, when I unscrew it when running. Have flushed, squirted, tilted and almost used a hammer, to ensure no air lock, but when I start the engine(no problem), no heat out of heater, temp gauge goes up to cool, but when I turn off, expansion tank overflowing. This drops when I relaease the filler cap on thermostat - this chamber empty, but refills from expansion tank.
I took out thermostat to check- not sure that it is working properly - but no difference without it in.
I replaced head etc 18 months ago, water pump 6 months ago.
No sign of water in oil as yet, not had time as yet to get it checked or 'sniffed', but I'm thinking, no choice but to take off head!
Any other ideas.
PS Lake Eyre, Cooper Creek, Flinders all look magnificent.
I took spares of everything except the expansion tank. Faith in the Landy is running a little low at present as well.
