Thread: Radiator removal & replacement

I had a 93 Disco1 V8 Manual. I managed to get the radiator out without removing the fan. From memory you have to fanny about a bit with the cowl (unscrew the cowl but leave it in position as it won't squeeze past the fan with the radiator in place) but it is possible. I presume it wouldn't be much different for the auto model - though I think in that case the radiator does have a couple of extra inputs for the auto transmission oil...

Yes, it is possible. It is a pain to do, but once you've unhooked and jiggled the cowl out of the way, there's just enough space to slide the radiator out.

I did mine a few months ago on a 95 Disco and it was pretty easy.
You dont have to remove the viscous coupling at all.Just take all
the mountings off hoses and transmission lines off along with the
shroud and it will come right out for you.

What is the problem with removing the viscous coupling? I can replace mine in 10 minutes. (I have done it three times in 6 weeks, the new one failed) I have the right size spanner and a 3 pound hammer. Then the radiator is easier to get out.

Thanks for the replies. Looked possible to me but its good to confirm others have actually done it.

Nothing wrong with removing it. Looked to me it was possible without doing so saving time and money on the extra tools the manual specified.

If you can slip a big sheet of cardboard between the rad and fan so you dont damage it.
