I know you've said that the head has been crack tested, but ...

Is it possible that the head has cracked and is leaking fuel into one or more exhaust ports? It would explain the fuel consumption and if it is burning in the ports, could cause the over-boost (similar to anti-lag on rally cars) ...

Just a thought.

this was what i thought it was. my reasoning behind it was a few months after i had it on graeme coopers dyno i got thinking about something ward said. ''its making plenty of power but the EGT's are too high for my liking and its running lean although, its not blowing as much smoke as most chips ive seen, its one of the better ones''

so i though..how does a diesel make good power not blow lots of smoke and run lean??
lean can = high EGT's and i thought, after seeing the head and head gasket and the lack of compression that i was just using more accelerator to make the D2 drive?
the fuel rail in the head is almost imposible to test. the best i could do was fit a FP sender in the reg and block the return to tank line and use the fuel pump to supply the pressure, there wasnt any bleeding off of FP...but...who knows what its doing when its hot and under pressure:eek:

TD5 supposed to be a better engine than the tdi, well that is rubbish, my tdi disco used to get about 850-900kms per tank.

as your defer is suffering the same economy and its a manual..it sort of says it may not be my auto:( the 90 had a smaller tank 60L but it was always 10-11L/100 around town.

nanocom shows the correct values for the 3 track throttle, and the supply voltage is also correct....and ive tried a known ''good'' pedal assy too:eek:

i dont know about your TD5 tony but mine dosnt have any throttle butterflys,,only killerwasps:p...that are more like killer midges atmo..

Both tyre sizes you mentioned are way over standard.. 235/85s are 32s, what do the 255/70s work out to be?

Anyway, the ECU has a speed input. Have you got speedo correction? Maybe borrow a set of 29s & see what happens.

30.1, so not overly bigger, Max, he's getting double the fuel consumption I'm getting and I'm on 32s, so I don't think it's tyre size or the wrong speedo readings.

its had a brand new stock ecu fitted, its had the oem mapping reinstalled onto the original ecu, its had the BAS tune modified and re installed, the outcomes always the same. 430-500k's per tank and still with the 730-810rpm miss at idle.

its just had (3min ago) an autodiagnostic computer on it...no faults logged and what ever graeme cooper uses as in interface also shows no faults logged.

the 255 70 R16 (30'') have only been on the D2 for 800klm now, same issues with the stock 255 55 R18 (29'') tyre size isnt an issue...unless i went to 47'':twisted:

What was the fuel consumption like before the EGR system fell off?

(you can probably guess where this line of questioning is going? ;))
