Made out of chopping boards?

I'm pretty keen on gettings some air bags from trucksrpings.com to replace my helpers in the rear 130 springs - and so will need to fabricate some retaining plates for the top as you don't seem to be able to buy them off the shelf.
I don't have the tools or know how to work with metal, and I don't have a lathe.
Taking some inspiration from Mrs Ho Har's

I was wondering whether I could simply cut up a plastic chopping board using a jigsaw - one circle slighty larger than the next and then fix them together and drill a hole with a holesaw for the air line.
What do you think? Will this work. Strong enough?
Any other simple ideas for fabricating a top retainer plate with only basic tools.
As an alternative could I just get a circular plate cut as my local fabricator like ....

and get it welded onto the stock spring retainer as shown in the bottom of the photo?
I assume the problem is the bag will not be adequately retained due to the size of the hole in the retainer.
Anyone know the outside diameter of the spring retainer?
