Battery Charge Issue

In have a 105Ah Supercharge Allrounder battery as my second battery. Earlier in the week I noticed that the dash voltage gauge was showing just under 12v and the charge window on the battery was clear not the usual green.

I put it on my 4amp auto charger and after about 12 hours the charger indicated the battery charged. However the charge window on the battery is still clear. The no load voltage is 13.5v.

I haven't taken it back to the seller at this stage. I have spoken to them on the phone and they indicated that often auto chargers cannot push in enough oomph before they switch to maintain charge. He suggested a manual charge and have it on one now. I am a bit sceptical though.

So - any thoughts? How can I test the battery voltage under load at home?

those indicators are nothing more than hydrometers made easy to read.

if the fluid level of the battery drops they cant ever read a full charge same as if you overfill the battery they cant ever read a low charge.

With some work those "sealed for life" batteries can be opened up and refilled, some are easier than others.

to test it under load just hook it up to a couple of high beam head lights or if you have the relay drive mod for your headlight remove the relay and plug into the output side of the relay socket to power up the lights from the battery (Dont forget your earth) leave it for 10 minutes to pull the surface charge off and your set for a reading.

Thanks for that.

I left the battery on charge overnight on single stage charger and this morning the charge indicator had turned green.

So it looks as if my automatic multi-stage charger does not have the oommmph to get is up to a basic charge before it switches to maintenance mode.

The Allrounder needs a higher charge voltage being calcium. If you have a Ctek charger or similar, switch it to the snowflake or winter charge setting which will charge it at 14.7v.
You can unscrew the sightgauge and top it up however it wont top up all the cells as they are all segregated but you cant open them up.
